General information
āhei is a free platform that helps kaiako, coaches and anyone delivering movement for tamariki plan inclusive PE and sport sessions, from early learning to Year 10.
Founded by Paralympians, āhei brings together trusted resources from national sports organisations, with adaptations built in so every tamaiti can join in, whether that’s in a school, an early learning centre, a club or the community.
āhei is for anyone supporting tamariki to move, including:
- Kaiako in early learning centres and schools, from early childhood to Year 10
- Coaches in clubs connected to our content partners, like Athletics NZ
- National sports organisations who want to get their programmes into more schools and clubs
- Regional development officers and school and club support teams
- Teacher aides, learning assistants and support staff
Whether you’re planning a PE lesson, coaching a weekend athletics group or supporting a tamaiti with specific needs, āhei gives you the tools to deliver sessions with confidence.
Set up your classes or groups, then find ready-to-go activities and sessions from trusted partners like Athletics NZ, Gymnastics NZ, Education Outdoors NZ, FAM, Kori and Speedminton.
Every activity comes with adaptations, so you can tailor sessions to your group and track how tamariki are progressing over time.
āhei is free for all New Zealand schools and early learning centres, and for clubs connected to our content partners.
For national sports organisations, we work with you on a platform built around your sport. Book a 20-minute chat through our Contact page to find out more.
Getting started
Click “Get started for free”, choose your organisation type (school or club) and follow the steps to set up your group.
If your school or club is already using āhei, ask your manager to invite you.
You choose the curriculum you work from: Health & PE (NZC 2007), or Te Whāriki for early learning, with the new 2026 HPE curriculum coming soon. Every activity shows how it links to your curriculum and your learners.
Resources for Years 9 and 10 go live in January 2027.
Yes. āhei takes your privacy seriously. We use secure systems and only collect what’s needed to support your sessions, like names, groupings and relevant learning or participation needs.
We may also use de-identified data (with no names or identifying details) to improve the platform and support inclusion in sport and education. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
We’ve got you covered. Once you’re logged in you’ll find guides, tooltips and short training videos, and we run onboarding sessions for schools, clubs and organisations who are new to āhei.
āhei also connects you with the regional development officers and support teams in your area, so you can find local help with PLD and delivery. And you can always get in touch with our team directly.
We’d love to hear from you. We’ll build a platform for your coaches and clubs, share your programmes with schools across Aotearoa, and give you the data to show funders and sponsors the difference you’re making.
